Infusions at Home

Infusions at Home is a program for eligible members+ with select chronic conditions to receive iron infusions and selected immunotherapy infusions at home, as an alternative to admitted patient treatment, where clinically appropriate and if available in your area.#

What is Infusions at Home?

It’s a program for eligible members+ to receive iron infusions and selected immunotherapy treatments at home instead of in hospital, when your doctor considers it clinically appropriate.

If your doctor prescribes it and it’s clinically appropriate, you could get:

  • Iron infusions for iron deficiency
  • Immunotherapy for inflammatory conditions like multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel diseases, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.

How is the program delivered?

A team of nurses manage your treatment at home, handle coordination, and take care of the collection and transport of any medicines and equipment. Your doctor is still in charge of your medical care and makes all treatment decisions. You’ll need a referral from your GP to get started.

Who is eligible for the program?

You’ll need:

  • Current residential hospital cover that includes access to Infusions at Home (with any relevant waiting periods served (check your product guide)
  • A referral from your GP or treating health professional
  • To meet clinical eligibility criteria for at-home treatment

Key clinical eligibility criteria may include:

  • Have a referral from your treating GP or specialist for an infusion that is clinically appropriate, as an alternative for treatment in a hospital or clinic
  • Be assessed by the provider as clinically suitable for at-home infusion treatment
  • Have a home environment assessed as safe and appropriate by the provider

How much does it cost?

ahm pays benefits towards the cost of your infusion at home. If you need extra stuff like blood tests, diagnostic services or specialist follow-ups, there might be some out-of-pocket costs.
