What’s the ahm Alcohol and Drug Detox at Home program?
The Alcohol and Drug Detox at Home program is a service, provided by Clean Slate Clinic which enables eligible ahm members+ on a selected product that includes access to the Alcohol and Drug Detox at Home program, a safe, flexible and clinically supervised way to safely withdraw from alcohol, drugs or other stimulants in the comfort of their home.
The telehealth program provides an alternative to hospital-based treatment to help eligible members+ who participate to manage their detox and recovery with support from qualified specialists, nurses and other clinical professionals. The program is designed to make care easier to access, reduce the risk of relapse and support long-term recovery.
The program runs in stages to make sure you get the right care and support at the right time (if clinically suitable). Clean Slate Clinic provides help from qualified specialists, nurses and other health professionals throughout both the Full program and Aftercare pathways.
Both program pathways provide you structured, clinically supervised support to help eligible members+ who participate feel safe, guided and supported at every stage of your recovery journey.
If you’re eligible and want to take part, you can refer yourself or get a referral from your healthcare practitioner, carer or community provider. A qualified clinician from Clean Slate Clinic will then check if the program is suitable for you.

The first stage is designed to help ensure eligible members+ who participate in the program are psychologically, socially, and physically prepared for a safe, clinically supported detox at home.
Eligible members+ who participate in the program will connect with a dedicated nurse and GP for a comprehensive assessment and personalised care plan to explore their goals and identify potential triggers to establish the right support for long-term recovery.
What’s included:
- One appointment with a Clean Slate Clinic GP and two with a nurse experienced in alcohol and drug dependencies.
- Basic tests (including blood tests)
- Prescriptions for withdrawal medications, if clinically required.
- A care package to begin the program, which includes a breathalyser.
Stage 2 – Detox
Full program only
Duration: 1–3 weeks
Participants get support through a medically supervised medicated detox at home program, which provides an alternative to the care usually delivered in a hospital or outpatient clinic.
Daily support includes:
- Check-ins with a dedicated nurse for safety and comfort
- Ongoing clinical monitoring for reassurance and guidance
- Medication adjustments, if needed
- Alternative care options or referrals if home detox isn’t suitable
Stage 3 - Aftercare
Duration: Up to 11 months
After detox in hospital or separate inpatient facility, eligible members+ continue to receive support to maintain their recovery and build long-term strategies to manage alcohol or drug withdrawal.
Support includes:
- Regular nurse follow-ups
- Access to up to five online SMART Recovery group sessions per week
- Development of a tailored relapse-prevention and recovery plan
- Final clinical review, with recommendations shared with your GP for continuity of care
Over the remainder of the program, support gradually transitions as confidence and independence grows, to ensure eligible members+ have the tools and strategies they need to maintain their recovery and manage any triggers effectively.
