Why do I need income protection?

If you become unable to work due to sickness or injury, income protection insurance can help to replace up to 70% of your monthly pre-tax income* (up to $10,000 per month). This can come in pretty handy for those day-to-day expenses like bills, mortgage repayments, so you can focus on the important stuff, like recovering.

Am I covered for redundancy or unemployment?

No. Cover for redundancy and unemployment is not available in ahm Income Protection.

Is income protection the same as WorkCover?

There are some key differences you need to know about - Workers compensation Workers compensation steps in to protect employees when they suffer an injury at their workplace. Income Protection Income Protection insurance covers you for injuries suffered both at work and outisde the workplace, which is pretty important as accidents don't just happen during work hours. Income protection also covers a wide range of illnesses.

How long do income protection payments last?

This depends on the benefit period you choose when setting up your policy and how long you are totally or partially disabled - you can pick from either two or five years when setting up your policy.

Can I apply for ahm Income Protection if I have HIV/AIDS?

ahm cannot offer Life Insurance cover or Income Protection Insurance cover to individuals with a diagnosis of HIV or AIDS at the time of application. That’s because we don’t use medical examinations as part of the application process, and so we are unable to assess the severity of the condition. However, you will not be excluded if you contract HIV or AIDS after you have purchased a policy. That means you may retain your policy, and we shall pay claims related to a HIV or AIDS illness, provided the claim meets the appropriate definitions of the policy.
