The basic level of ahm hospital cover is called 'ambulance hospital (basic)' and includes accident override and limited medically necessary ambulance use. Restricted benefits are also paid toward some rehab, hospital psychiatric and palliative care services.

Is ambulance cover included in hospital cover and extras?

If you’re a resident of TAS or QLD, ambulance services are covered automatically by your state schemes.

If you live anywhere else in Australia, all ahm extras products include ahm Unlimited Emergency Ambulance Cover, Australia-wide (after a 1 day waiting period). All ahm hospital only and package products include Medically Necessary Ambulance cover, Australia-wide (after a 1 day waiting period).

In Australia, we have a great public health system. So why have private health insurance? It’s a question only you can answer, but some of the things worth considering are the extra choice and control that private health cover can offer you.
With hospital cover you get the opportunity to choose your own doctor and specialist, and more choice over which hospital you go to.

Which health insurance plan helps with pre-existing conditions?

Accepted Answer

There’s usually a 12 month waiting period before any health insurance plan can help with the bill for treatment of pre-existing conditions. A pre-existing condition is an ailment, illness or condition that, in the opinion of a Medical Practitioner appointed by ahm, the signs or symptoms of which existed at any time in the period of six months before you became insured under or changed your cover.
