Cookies, Pixels and Similar Technologies Statement

Our statement explaining how ahm uses cookies and similar technologies across our websites, apps, social media pages, and certain emails

Effective 1 October 2026

Introduction

This Cookies, Pixels and Similar Technologies Statement explains how ahm uses cookies and similar technologies (including pixels such as tracking pixels) on our websites, social media pages and mobile applications, and in certain emails (together, our Platforms). These technologies help our Platforms function properly, enhance performance, help us understand how people use them, and support our analytics and advertising activities.

This statement explains what these technologies are, why we use them (including how we work with analytics, social media and digital advertising partners such as Google Marketing Platform, Meta, Microsoft Advertising, TikTok and other providers), and the choices available to you.

1. Who are we?

In this Cookies, Pixels and Similar Technologies Statement, we, us or our means ahm health insurance which is a business of Medibank Private Limited ABN 47 080 890 259 and, where relevant, its related bodies corporate that operate our Platforms.

This Cookies, Pixels and Similar Technologies Statement should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains in more detail how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information.

2. What are cookies and similar technologies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your browser or device when you visit a website or use an app. They are widely used to make websites and apps work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the owner of the site or app.

We and our platform providers also use other technologies that work in a similar way, including:

  • Pixels and tags – small pieces of code or images embedded in our web pages, emails or apps that help us and our platform providers understand whether something has loaded or been viewed, such as when you open an email or visit a page. Tracking pixels are a type of pixel that may collect or transit information about how our Platforms are used.
  • Software Development Kits (SDKs) – tools built into our mobile apps that support functionality and help us understand app performance, diagnose issues and improve reliability. Depending on the SDK, they may collect information such as app usage, device identifiers and crash data.
  • Local storage and similar technologies – tools that store information on your device, such as in your browser’s local storage, to help our Platforms remember your settings, support functionality and provide a more consistent experience. They perform similar functions to cookies.

In this statement we refer to all of these collectively as cookies or experience technologies. They allow us and our partners to recognise your device, remember your preferences, improve functionality, analyse usage, and provide more relevant content and advertising.

3. Why do we use cookies and similar technologies?

We use cookies and similar technologies on our Platforms for the following purposes:

  • To operate our Platforms (strictly necessary). These cookies are needed so our Platforms work properly. They support core features such as security, logging in, navigating pages, completing forms, making payments, and remembering selections or information you have entered during a quote, application, purchase or redemption process.
  • To remember your settings and improve functionality (functional/preferences). These cookies remember choices you make (such as language, region or login state) and help us provide enhanced, more personalised features, such as live messaging or remembering where you left off in a quote or your website journey.
  • To understand and improve performance (analytics / measurement). We use analytics cookies to understand how people use our Platforms, such as which pages are visited, how long they are viewed, which links are clicked and whether error messages are shown. This helps us improve the design, performance and usability of our Platforms. These cookies may be set by us or by our analytics partners.
  • To personalise content and experiences (personalisation). Some cookies help us tailor the content and experiences you see on our Platforms, such as recommending content or products and services that may be more relevant to you or testing different versions of a page. This helps us test and personalise content.
  • To support our advertising and marketing activities. We use cookies and similar technologies to:
    • Show ahm advertising on our own Platforms and on other websites, apps and digital channels,
    • Help ensure advertising is more relevant and is not shown too often, or in circumstances where it may be less relevant, tailor certain marketing communications we send you, where permitted, and
    • Understand and measure the performance of our advertising and marketing campaigns, including whether people visit a page, start or complete a quote, or purchase a product after seeing an ad.

We do this using our own cookies, pixels and similar technologies, and by sharing information collected through those technologies (where applicable and with your consent where required) with third-party analytics, advertising, social media and technology providers. These may include providers such as Google Analytics, Google Marketing Platform, Meta, Microsoft Advertising, TikTok and other similar providers. These partners may use that information to provide analytics, measurement, attribution, advertising, reporting and related technology services to ahm.

4. Sending information overseas

Some of the third parties we work with operate outside of Australia. We may disclose information collected via cookies and similar technologies to those third parties. These third parties may be located in countries including the USA, UK, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan and within the European Union. For more information, see the “Disclosure overseas” section of our Privacy Policy. Third parties that set or use cookies and similar technologies on our Platforms or in our emails may retain information collected through those technologies in accordance with their own privacy policies and retention practices.

5. What categories of cookies and similar technologies do we use?

Depending on the purpose, cookies, pixels, tags, SDKs and similar technologies may fall within one or more of the categories below:

They enable core features such as security, authentication, page navigation, and key functionality like completing forms and making payments. Functional/preferences cookies

These cookies and similar technologies, which may include tracking pixels enable enhanced functionality and personalisation, for example by remembering your login details, language or other settings, and recognising when you return to our Platforms, they help us provide a more consistent and convenient experience. If you disable these cookies, some features may not work as intended.

Performance/analytics cookies

These cookies pixels and similar technologies, which may include tracking pixels collect information about how visitors use our Platforms, such as which pages are visited, how long they are viewed, which features are used and whether error messages are shown. These cookies pixels and similar technologies, which may include tracking pixels and similar technologies help us tailor content and experiences on our Platforms, for example by recommending content or products and services that may be more relevant to you or by running A/B tests and similar experiments.

Targeted advertising / marketing cookies

These cookies, pixels, including tracking pixels, tags and SDKs are used to personalise your experience on our Platforms and on third party websites, apps and digital channels. They help us and our partners:

  • Understand how you interact with our Platforms and marketing communications (for example, whether an email is opened or a link is clicked),
  • Build audience segments and show you ahm advertising that is more relevant to your interests,
  • Measure and improve the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns, and
  • Limit how often you see the same ad, for example if it is shown too often, or in circumstances where it may be less relevant.

These cookies may be set up by us or by our digital advertising and social media partners (for example, Google Marketing Platform, Meta, Microsoft Advertising, TikTok and other providers). Some partners may use pseudonymous identifiers derived from your contact details to help recognise your browser or device across different websites and apps. If you disable these cookies, you will still see advertising, but it may be less relevant to you.

6. Your choices regarding cookies

Browser and device settings

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings, including blocking or deleting cookies. Instructions are usually found in the “Help” or “Settings” section of your browser. These links are provided for convenience only and may change over time. If a link no longer works, please refer to the relevant browser developer’s website. For example:

For other browsers, please refer to the browser developer’s website. Some mobile devices also allow you to limit the use of advertising identifiers through the device settings.

App settings

  • On Apple (iPhone/iPad):
When you use our app, you may see a prompt asking whether you allow tracking across other companies’ apps and websites. If you choose “Ask App Not to Track”, we will not use your device’s advertising identifier for cross-app advertising or measurement. This setting does not necessarily disable cookies and similar technologies used on web pages viewed within the app or other information collection needed for the app to function, improve performance and keep your account secure.
You can also change this anytime in your device settings under:
    Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking
  • On Android devices:
You can manage your advertising preferences in your device settings under:
    Settings → Privacy → Ads

Please note that opting out of advertising tracking does not necessarily disable all cookies, similar technologies or other technical information collection on our Platforms. We may still collect information needed for our app and websites to function, improve performance, and keep your account secure.

Advertising and social media partners

You may be able to control how certain partners use information about you for advertising purposes by using their own settings or industry opt out tools, such as:

These tools are provided by the relevant third parties or industry bodies, not ahm. They generally apply only to the device and browser you use to access them and may not block all types of advertising.
