What is orthodontics, routine, major and complex dental?

There’s a few different categories of extras services when it comes to your teeth.

What’s included in complex and major dental?

Have questions? Like what is major dental? Are dental implants covered by health insurance? Can you claim for veneers or a root canal on insurance? If complex and major dental are included in your extras cover, these are some of the things we can help with the bill for (waiting periods and annual limits apply).

How it works

1

You might have to wait

Depending on your policy, the waiting period could be 2 months to start claiming for routine dental. The wait period for orthodontics, complex and major dental could be 12 months.

2

Choose your dentist

As long as they're recognised by ahm you can see whoever you like, wherever you like. You can talk with a dentist and ask if they’re recognised by ahm, or just use our tool to find the right provider for you.

3

Ask your dentist about the costs up-front

Ask your dentist for an estimated cost for the dental work, with the cost and item number for each procedure you’re having. You can then use those item numbers to tally up the amount we’ll be able to help with the bill (up to your annual limit). Waiting periods apply.

For orthodontics, you can choose how you want to pay, whether it’s in full, using instalments or with a deposit.

When paying in full, you will need to tell us each year if treatment is ongoing. When using instalments, we will only pay to the receipt/invoice amount up to the financial year limit. If you’re using a deposit, this will be included as “ongoing treatment”.

4

Check your annual and lifetime limit

We can only help with the bill up to your annual and lifetime limit. At ahm, a lifetime limit applies to orthodontics and laser eye surgery. A lifetime limit carries with you even if you change insurers.
